In 1901 he began writing for the London Evening News under the pseudonym "P. L. Roscoe." The first book under that name was published in 1912.

From 1914 until 1927 he worked as a journalist on the Daily Mirror, The Daily Mail, The Sunday Times, and The Observer. At that time, he also published a series of short stories under his own name which proved to be very successful. His first novel, The Surgeon of Gaster Street (1921), became an international bestseller and was made into a film starring Ivor Novello (1923).

He also published two volumes of autobiography: A Prisoner of Birth (1927) and Prisoner at Large (1928). His most famous work is Think and Grow Rich (1937), which has gone through more than 100 editions and has been translated into over sixty-six languages. His autobiography was published as My Autobiography (1950).

Philip Roscoe died on June 27th, 1958 in London at the age of eighty-seven.
